Need to Further Decentralize Cloud Infrastructure? Akash, Concordium Provide Cloud Server Spaces

March 27, 2023

The cloud computing market is controlled by the big three: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. In fact, they control almost two-thirds of the market, according to Statista. In an attempt to derail their control, a new challenger approaches with a mission to decentralize the internet's data and democratize cloud infrastructure:

Akash Network.

Akash Network offers a free and public service that allows users to deploy applications in a secure and censorship-proof environment. Its distributed peer-to-peer cloud marketplace is run by a network of globally distributed node operators, providing cloud-grade server space at a fraction of the cost of other systems.

By removing the single points of failure that come with centralized cloud service providers, Akash users are more resilient to institutional attack vectors. Additionally, the network's layer one protocol uses proof-of-stake consensus to both secure the network and protect user identities.

In a step to lessen the grip the big three have on the cloud computing market as well as offer decentralized cloud infrastructure for blockchain applications, Akash is in a new partnership with Concordium, a layer-1 decentralized blockchain.

The partnership acts as an opportunity for projects running on Concordium to access attractive and cost-effective cloud server spaces to run their dApps. By integrating with Akash, ecosystem participants also leverage decentralized cloud storage and computational power to run their Concordium node and contribute to further decentralizing the blockchain.

"With Concordium's nodes being able to be supported on Akash Network, Concordium's users have an alternative solution for their cloud needs to not only save costs but further decentralize their cloud infrastructure," said Boz Menzalji, Chief Operating Officer at Akash.

The Concordium blockchain is a built-in, self-sovereign ID framework designed to have real-world utility and specifically benefit business applications. Concordium, with fast transactions, true finalization and low FIAT pegged fees, is an ideal solution for developers looking to build their dApps on a secure, high-scale, science-backed chain.

Mikael Breinholst, Director of Product at Concordium, welcomes Akash into the Concodium community and is in full agreement with Menzalji about the benefits of this collaboration.

“This collaboration will surely be well received by the developer community for running nodes and easy deployment of apps,” said Breinholst. “Not only will this save costs, but it will also further decentralize their cloud infrastructure."
