XDC Network Scores Deal with DC United

Blockchain is getting lots of love in the world today. Surging interest in non-fungible tokens (NFTs) among consumers, the sports industry is playing in the blockchain arena.

This week, MLS franchise D.C. United announced  a three year deal with blockchain technology company, XDC Network. As part of this new relationship, XDC will support a new ‘Fan Token’ program, while D.C. United offers visibility to increase brand awareness for XDC.

Once the “Fan Token” program launches, fans can buy, sell and trade unique NFTs directly through the XDC network. Members of the program gain loyalty reward like access to special events, appearances, and engagement opportunities, allowing fans to create a more meaningful relationship with the organization.

“What makes this really unique for us is that it goes beyond a partnership,” commented Danita Johnson, President of Business Operations for D.C. United. “Through support from the XDC Foundation, we will utilize the blockchain by building a new fan experience on the XDC Network, which will deliver innovative ways for fans to engage with the club and gain access to blockchain education. We are excited to be a pioneer in professional sports and look forward to building a welcoming and transformative future together as we embark on this next chapter for D.C. United.”

In addition to creating better experiences for fans, the program will also provide access to educational video resources to learn more about the benefits and potential of blockchain technology.

“This partnership is about bringing the value of blockchain to the D.C. United fan base to elevate their experience, drive deeper engagement, and connect the growing crypto ecosystem to the club,” added Billy Sebell, Executive Director of XDC Foundation.
